Galerie Edition Artelier

Die Idee, dieses Ausnahmsjahr mit einer grafischen Produktion auf gewohntem internationalem Niveau zu begleiten, kommt allen gelegen. Sie gibt Künstlern, die für 2003 Werke schaffen, einen gemeinsamen aktuellen Auftritt, beschreibt einen europäischen Produktionsort für Kunst, und schafft gleichzeitig ein bleibendes Dokument über Positionen und Wertigkeiten im Kulturhauptstadtjahr.

Und das in einer guten und ausgewogenen Mischung aus regionalem und internationalem Bezug. Nur scheinbar handelt es sich um eine beliebige Auswahl. Tatsächlich manifestiert sich auch hier programmatisch Graz 2003: Nämlich nicht strikt einem Motto oder Thema zu folgen, sondern offen, weltoffen zu sein und dabei neue Standards zu setzen, die für die Zukunft taugen.
Die Galerie-Edition Artelier folgt dabei nur ihrer Tradition, die Stadt Graz baut und beschreitet 2003 aber ungewohnte Wege in eine europäische Zukunft. Wenn sie dabei Qualitätskriterien folgt, wie sie die Galerie-Edition Artelier seit Jahren beispielhaft setzt, ist sie sicher unterwegs.

When people in the fine arts think of Graz, they think of the Galerie-Edition Artelier. That is one of the best addresses in this town that has the privilege of calling itself the Cultural Capital of Europe in 2003.
The idea of accompanying this exceptional year with a graphic production at their usual international level is a good one on all counts. It provides a common stage for the artists creating works for 2003, paints a portrait of a European art production venue, and at the same time creates a permanent document of standpoints and values in the year of the cultural capital.

And it does so with a good and balanced mixture of regional and international references. If it seems to be an arbitrary selection, that is an illusion. In reality, it is a programmatic manifestation of Graz 2003: That is, not to follow a strict motto or theme, but to be open, open to the world, and thus to set new standards that will be viable in the future.
In doing so, the Galerie-Edition Artelier is merely following its own great tradition, whereas the City of Graz in 2003 is following new roads, roads of its own building, into a new European future. If it follows the criteria of quality such as those set down for years by Galerie-Edition Artelier, it is on the right track.
